I admire Helen because she is optimistic about life. She became deaf and blind when she was 19 months old. Since then she lived in a world of darkness and silence, and communication seemed only a dream for her, But she never gave up and struggled to lead an active life. Under the guidance of her teacher, Ms. Sulliven, Helen learned to read and write and became a famous writer. For a disabled person like her, this was really a wonder!
Helen has set an excellent example to all of us. Her story tells us that we should value what we have, and try our best go overcome any difficulty in life.
3:William Shakespeare
Do you know Hamlet? Have you read The Merchant of Venice? These two great works are both written by William Shakespeare, my favorite English writer and the man of all ages!
Shakespeare, a son from a poor family, a man of little education, wrote plays and poems that are read all over the world, I like him because his comedies and tragedies bring me into a fantastic world; I love him because his poems let me enjoy the beauty of the English language; I admire him because his keen sights set me thinking and teach me how to lead a meaningful life!

Last Thursday, we had a class meeting to discuss where to go for our spring outing. We came up with several choices such as going boating, climbing a mountain, and going to an amusement park. Finally, we decided to go mountain climbing.

However, when reached the top, we were shocked to see litter here and there, such as bottles and banana peels. Then we started to pick up the litter. From the picture I can see a pair of proud compasses and a hard-working pencil. The compasses are big, drawing a circle with ease, while the pencil is small, drawing a line with great effort. I think the compasses are reasonable to be proud because no one else can do the job better. At the same time, however, he should realize the pencil has his own advantages. The pencil can do other shapes better than the compasses, even pictures. So in my opinion, while we are confident in ourselves, we should recognize strengths in others and show due respect for them.

Hi, I am Mike. I just went through my first year of college. The toughest part on me at first was the general adjustment. I went to a very small high school where my mom was a teacher and she did practically everything for me. But at the college I needed to know some basic life skills, such as balancing a check-book, laundry, and the things you have to be able to handle that I never thought of in the high school! It was really tough for me at first and I got badly homesick.
Once that first semester was over and I got used to the college life, I loved it---good facilities, helpful instructors, and a good library. The Students’ Union organizes various parties every week. I also go to cinemas and concerts, and often spend Saturday nights in pubs and clubs.
One thing I think is important is to get yourself active in things. I was on the dance team in college and met a ton of people that way… it was so much easier to make friends when you had a common ground.

Shooting, at first only a means to make a living to our ancestors, became an item/event in Physical Education at the end of the 19^th century. In the year 1896 it came into the Olympic Games but between the years 1904 and 1928 it was stopped. It was in the year 1932 that shooting came back into the Olympic family and in 1968 women athletes were allowed to take part in it for the first time. Shooting has been developed smoothly and steadily by now. In 1896 there were only 3 shooting competition items but now there are 17.

Mike’s mother did almost everything for him when in high school, which brought him a hard time adjusting to the first-year college life. However, afterwards he got accustomed to it because of the academic atmosphere and colorful activities there.
As for me, what I do everyday is to study hard to enter a famous university, which is always the expectations of my parents and teachers. So traveling among classroom, dormitory and canteen is the routine work. Seldom do I have the time to do some activities. Anyway, unlike you, I have learned how to be independent in a boarding school, which is beneficial to adjust to the college life.
It seems to me the ideal college life is that I become matured both physically and mentally， and that I obtain qualified academic knowledge and get well prepared for society at the same time.
As we all know，college is wildly different from middle school. It connects not only adolescence to adulthood，but also the ivory tower to the real society. So an active part in activities，associations，as well as some romances are three keys to achieving my ideal college life.
